Set about centering them into the wheel and tacked them into place. Once I had 3" hot beads around the ringsI burned them on with them on a rotating platform I had made. After years of use with no issues I can say this is one of the best investments Ive put into my Jeep. Im able to go single digits without worry. I was able to go 3lbs and not ever lost a bead.

I have been needing a set of bead locks for too long and have been looking at different companies designs. Some weld inside the lip and some are outside lip. Some have provisions for anti coning materials built in and some don't. The differences good or bad?

This will help to reduce the amount of added width DIY beadlocks add to standard wheels. However, this can be a PITA if the wheels are beaten up or out of round; some rings won't fit inside the lip of the wheel.
If you are looking for more width or have abused wheels, go with the ones that sit on top of the lip. Keep an eye out for design of the ring as some kits don't have ways for mud and dirt to wash out from between the rings.

The type of welding procedure used should play a big part of deciding inside the lip or outside. If ur gonna tig it, outside the lip all day long. Mig and stick inside the lip. When I bought mine I made a bunch of calls.

Mud rings wide flange outer lock rings now available for 15" wheels only. Compare to our standard outer lock rings--the inside diameter is reduced to help keep trail hazards from damaging your valves, scraping hubs, and similar. At the time of order, please specify if you would like nutserts threaded inserts that pop like a pop-rivet into the inner lock rings or Nylock nuts with your beadlocks. Nylock nuts will require two wrenches during tire install, but will never vibrate loose, plus they cost less.
Nutserts are easier to work with during tire installation, but are more expensive and more difficult to install. One lock kit contains enough parts to beadlock one wheel; order four kits for a complete set of all four wheels. A few words about leaks: Most beadlock wheels use a reduced diameter inner weld ring to bolt the outer lock ring onto. The tire is clamped between these two rings, which is what prevents it from slipping on the wheel.
Rather than seating and sealing against the outside of the bead seat a seat area of roughly 34 square inchesmost lock setups seat and seal on the inner ring instead.
This smaller lock ring diameter makes it a little easier to put the tires on and take them off--but with half the surface area to seal, leaks are common. Our beadlocks use a full diameter inner ring. That means we use the full 34 square inches of sealing area--more seated tire, translates directly into less leakage. It does also mean that it'll be just as much work to put on the inner bead with our beadlocks, as it is on a normal wheel--no "drop-on" mounting, but we feel that a leak-free beadlock wheel, is well worth a little extra work once in a while.
This design has let us leave tires, untouched, for months at a time, without air leaks. Some information on strength: Beadlock strength depends on two things: the material the locks are made out of, and the bolts that hold them together. Compare our strength to anything else on the market. Simple Steel Beadlock
Our beadlocks are designed to weld onto the outside lip of the wheel, meaning that you may not need to cut the outer bead seat area off of your wheels to install them. This type of installation widens the wheel by approximately 1. Turns 15x8's into 15x10's, 15x10's into 15x12's, etc. Normally, the tire would seat on the existing bead seat. With the Rockstomper beadlocks installed, the inner edge of the bead seals against the inner lock ring, and the outer edge of the bead, against the outer lock ring.
The two are clamped together, retaining the bead and keeping it from spinning on the wheel or pushing off. Because machining of the wheel is not necessary for installation, Rockstomper beadlocks can be installed by any certified welder--since the welds need to be airtight, we strongly recommend that they be MIG or TIG welded.

It's all here in the Tires Category.We started with a set of steel wheels that have seen their share of rocks. In fact, a couple had severe cases of rock rash and were prime beadlock material. We decided to go with the steel outer rims for durability.
The first step in the installation is to cut off the outer bead of the wheel. This can be accomplished several different ways. One would be to pay a machine shop to remove it on a lathe.
Another is to remove the outer rim with a plasma cutter.
The lathe would have made a straighter cut, but the plasma cutter worked just fine. At first, we thought it would be a good idea to only do several inches at a time to avoid warping, but we found that this would only cause pin holes and subsequent leaks. To stop this, seal the welds with a film of silicone, just in case. Mount it as you normally would, from the inside of your tire. Center the tire on the inner beadlock rim, and place the outer rim over the tire.
You may need to use several longer bolts, evenly spaced around the beadlock to start drawing the inner and outer locks together. Then install all provided bolts and tighten them down evenly in a crisscross pattern.

Beadlocks can be unsafe and they can be very difficult to balance and are more prone to driveability problems than normal wheels. Please use caution when building and using beadlocks. Remember to check your beadlocks often, as it is common for bolts to loosen over time.
Also keep in mind that beadlocks are not DOT-approved in most states. Ask your parent or guardian for help when using a welder. If you have the ability to weld and a bit of time on your hands though, you can obtain low-cost beadlocks by converting a set of steel wheels using a do-it-yourself beadlock kit such as that available from Rockstomper of Firestone, Colorado.
This will significantly reduce the cost effectiveness of a do-it-yourself kit, not to mention it goes against the whole idea behind do-it-yourself. Rockstomper's DIY beadlock kits are designed to weld onto the outside wheel lip without a need for additional wheel modifications. The fact that your existing wheels can be used for this conversion will be a bonus for those who have already purchased steel wheels with custom backspacing. Installation of the beadlock kits will widen wheels by 1.
For example, the 15x8 Pro Comp Series 51 Rock Crawler Xtreme steel wheels on which we installed the beadlocks were closer in size to 15x10 once the installation was complete. The welds must also be airtight to avoid leakage. The Rockstomper DIY beadlock kit uses a full-diameter inner ring to create a larger bead-seating area so that air leaks around the tire bead are minimal if at all existent.
Buttonhead capscrews are another option available from Rockstomper, as are countersunk flathead capscrews. Rockstomper recommends torquing the bolts from 5 to 10 lb-ft with a maximum of 20 lb-ft. This may not seem like a lot of force, but it is said to offer ample bead sealing, bead retention, and durability. Not heeding this warning may result in excessive inward coning of the outer bead ring. Coning won't affect the durability of the beadlocks and is primarily a cosmetic concern, but it should be avoided nonetheless.
The beadlock kits are available for, and inch wheels. A mud ring option is available for the inch size and includes a wide-flange outer lock ring to aid in keeping the wheel center free of debris and to protect valve stems and front locking hubs from damage. Bead rings are shipped unfinished to keep the cost low and so that rings can be painted as needed after welding so they match the wheel or vehicle.
